Totisha L. Phelps

Born and raised in Newark, NJ, but currently resides near Charlotte, NC. I am an open book that owns my truth. I publicly speak about my BREAKDOWNS and openly share my BREAKTHROUGHS. I am a woman that speaks with conviction and passion. I have a BOLD yet gravitating personality. I wear my heart on my sleeve and leave my footprint everywhere I go. A child of God, wife, mother, author, and publisher of several life-changing journals. I am a Motivational Speaker, Business Consultant, and Growth Coach. I am a Growth and Writing Coach who concentrates on finding one's +POSITIVE mental health and a Peer Support Specialist (concentration-mental health). I hold a master's degree in business management, I love to travel, fellowship, and create memories that will last me a lifetime. I am loyal, nurturing, adventurous, and outgoing. I love to have fun while making others smile. Most importantly, I love to inspire all around me while helping and serving in the community.

HIS LIFE OUR STORY-BOOK

In 2008, she married her childhood sweetheart after he completed a 10-year prison sentence. Although she was not behind bars herself, she still became a prisoner.

Totisha Phelps is the founder of Lock-N-Key Prison Wives' Aftermath as a woman dealing with a man convicted and has faced many obstacles rooted in misconceptions, judgments, and stereotypes.

As a direct result, she battled depression and anxiety for ten years. And she wrote: “Although I have conquered depression, I had to learn how to meditate and talk to God. He has allowed me to see that this journey was not about me but for women like me. Initially, I was stagnant and struggled with how to M.O.V.E. (Make-Over and Value Experiences), but God gave me the T.O.O.L.S. (Taking Over Our Life Situations). I needed to move forward and be F.R.E.E.D. (Forget Reliving Experiences that Entertain Defeat). Not just me but my husband as well. (successfully married 14 years outside of the prison walls). Having hands-on experience allowed us to understand the needs of underprivileged families in our community experiencing incarceration with a love one. After overcoming these hardships, LNKPWA was born and is now able to help other families navigate their way to success after prison and live the American Dream their way”.

Lock-N-Key Prison Wives Aftermath is a frontline nonprofit organization with a global reach. LNKPWA was established in 2017 to serve as a resource for women, identifying vulnerability to depression among wives of convicted men in our communities. We encourage our women to aim to achieve their highest possible level of functioning and life satisfaction by empowering them to keep striving.

We are not here to sell a dream for SUCCESS but to raise AWARENESS on how to be SUCCESSFUL after prison. Sadly, not every Prison Wife will have a happy ending. We are NOT a licensed therapy center. However, we are a living witness to the "AFTERMATH" after prison. We do not proclaim to know it all, but with research and personal experience, we know enough to know better (WISDOM).
